Being Part of a Temple Community

This last week, the children and families of our 5th grade class experienced profound joy and sadness related to the Jewish life cycle.  With joy last Saturday night, Madison Watson, celebrated at the wedding of her mother Amanda to Jeremy Silver. We wish Madison and her family mazal tov and much happiness.

With deep sadness, we acknowledge the death of Cameron Hamersmith's mother, Vicki, z"l. Many families in the 5th grade personally knew Vicki as a warm, caring, beautiful woman, wife and mother. She worked at Temple Judea as our Caring Coordinator and helped many people through difficult times. Now it is our turn to help Cameron and his family through this difficult time of mourning. Belonging to a temple, especially a temple like Temple Judea means that we reach out to each other and share in happy and sad times.  For Cameron, the students will be making condolence cards which I will deliver to him at the shiva minyan. There are other things you can do to show your support.  You can make a donation in Vicki's memory to a place the Hamersmith family requests such as Temple Judea. You can find out if the family needs support with meals, or play dates. You can attend the funeral (Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Judea) or a shiva minyan. You don't need to say anything, but just be there for the family. They will know that you are supporting them with your presence. I'm including a link that has information on the traditional Jewish words of comfort for your information. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call on any of the rabbis or educators at the temple.
